A home standby generator is a permanently installed backup power system. Within about 10 seconds of a utility outage it starts automatically, an automatic transfer switch disconnects the grid and feeds your home, and when utility power returns the generator shuts itself down. You do not touch a switch. You do not go outside in the storm.

It depends on square footage, how you heat, whether you charge an EV during an outage, and whether you want whole-home or essential-circuit coverage. As a starting point: 11kW covers essentials, 18kW covers a midsize home, 22–24kW is whole-home comfort, and 26kW handles oversized homes and EV loads. A complete standby generator installation typically ranges from $8,500 to $18,000 depending on generator size, natural gas vs. propane, and whether a panel upgrade is required. Every estimate is free, itemized, and has no hidden fees. 0% financing is available.

As long as fuel lasts. Natural-gas units run continuously off your utility gas line. Propane runtime depends on tank size and load — typically days, not hours. Check oil during multi-day events. With maintenance, these units are designed for 20 years or more.

A standby unit is permanent, automatic, and connected to your fuel line. A portable is manual, smaller, and needs to be refueled and plugged in. If you want the house to just work, standby is the answer. If you want a lower-cost backup for a few circuits, we also install portables.
